About the Role

Reporting to the Constituency Returning Officer, the Voter Educator will support voter education activities within the County Assembly Ward where the by-election is taking place. The position requires strong community engagement skills, knowledge of the local social and cultural environment, and the ability to communicate effectively with residents and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

• Distribute and disseminate voter education materials in schools, churches and mosques, health centres, markets, community centres, farms, business centres and other relevant locations.
• Liaise with local stakeholders, relevant authorities and community leaders to facilitate voter education activities.
• Conduct voter education activities throughout the County Assembly Ward.
• Act as a link between the IEBC Returning Officer, civil society organizations (CSOs), community-based organizations (CBOs) and the community.
• Assess public understanding of matters related to the electoral activity taking place in the Ward.
• Monitor and evaluate voter education providers within the Ward.
• Prepare and submit weekly activity reports to the Supervisor.
• Perform any other assignment as directed by the immediate supervisor.

Requirements for Appointment

• Must be a resident of the Ward where the by-election is taking place.
• Must be a speaker of the main language of communication used by residents of the electoral unit.
• Must possess a diploma or higher qualification in a relevant field, such as Social Sciences or Project Management.
• Must have at least 3 years of experience in voter education, community mobilization or social work within the respective by-election electoral unit.
• Must be mature, respectable and non-partisan, with exceptional understanding and knowledge of civil society organizations, geography, and the socio-cultural, economic and political dynamics of the Ward.
• Must provide proof of successfully conducting voter education activities or informal training in collaboration with existing social networks within the electoral unit.
• Must demonstrate an interest in electoral processes.
• Must demonstrate commitment to the values of patriotism, nation-building, good governance, democracy, human rights and gender equity.
• Must not be engaged in any other job during the contract period and must commit to working exclusively for the IEBC under the stipulated terms and conditions of service.
• Must have working knowledge of computers, social media and digital platforms.
• Must have proven report writing skills.

Wages

Ward-based Voter Educators will be paid Kshs. 1,500 per day.
