Job Description

The Radio Broadcast Assistant will be responsible for shaping the station’s sound by producing high-quality audio content, including station imaging, jingles, promos, sweepers, and music beds. The role also includes technical support during live broadcasts, sound editing, and maintaining audio systems. This is a hands-on, technical, and creative role that requires both precision and innovation.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop station imaging elements such as intros, sweepers, promos, jingles, and music beds that reflect Family Media’s brand identity.
• Monitor live broadcasts to ensure optimal sound quality and troubleshoot any technical issues during airtime.
• Record, edit, and store audio content using digital tools and automation systems.
• Create and manage radio playlists, upload scheduled shows, and back up all audio content in digital storage systems.
• Operate studio and live sound equipment to ensure smooth and uninterrupted broadcasts.
• Assess acoustics and configure sound systems for both pre-recorded and live production environments.
• Work closely with producers and presenters to define audio requirements for each program.
• Handle the technical aspects of amplification, mixing, and sound equalization to meet artistic standards.
• Maintain and repair audio equipment to ensure long-term usability and quality performance.
• Ensure advertisements run according to the approved scheduling (space orders).
• Assist with editing voiceovers and syndicated content to ensure high-quality broadcast standards.

Required Qualifications

• Diploma in Sound Engineering, Broadcast Journalism, Media Production, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of two (2) years’ experience working with sound automation systems and broadcasting technologies.
• Strong working knowledge of mixing, mastering, and audio equalization tools.
• Hands-on experience with radio studio equipment, both in-studio and live setups.
• Sound understanding of Kenya’s radio market, program formats, and audience preferences.
• Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities under pressure and tight deadlines.
• Ability to distinguish sound quality and demonstrate strong musical and audio sensitivity (pitch, rhythm, etc.).

Preferred Qualifications

• Working knowledge of editing software such as Adobe Audition, Pro Tools, or similar DAWs.
• Experience with both TV and radio production environments is a plus.
• Ability to read and voice scripts fluently will be considered an added advantage.
• Creative mindset with the ability to bring fresh audio ideas to programming and promotions.
