Job Description

The Receivables Accountant will be responsible for supporting the full cycle of accounts receivable operations, including claims verification, invoice processing, reconciliation, and follow-up on outstanding debts. Reporting directly to the Credit Controller, the role ensures that all receivables records are accurate, complete, and compliant with Equity Afya’s financial policies and service-level agreements with insurance providers and corporate clients.

The successful candidate will manage invoice documentation, coordinate dispatch, maintain proper filing systems, and provide timely updates to internal staff on claim statuses. The Receivables Accountant plays a vital role in maintaining healthy cash flows by ensuring timely submission and re-submission of claims, accurate posting of transactions, and proactive communication with stakeholders.

This role requires strong analytical skills, excellent organization, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced healthcare finance environment. The ideal candidate will also possess strong customer relationship skills to support effective communication with internal teams and external partners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the collection and consolidation of invoices and supporting documents from all relevant departments.
  • Verify claim forms and invoices against scheme rules to ensure complete and accurate documentation before dispatch.
  • Review, approve, and batch invoices in the financial system for timely processing.
  • Facilitate the physical dispatch of claims to insurance companies and corporate organizations.
  • Maintain a comprehensive record of all dispatched invoices, ensuring accuracy and traceability.
  • Monitor the returned invoices tracker and ensure all returned claims are corrected and resubmitted promptly.
  • Maintain proper backup and secure filing of all claim support documents for audit readiness.
  • Communicate updates from insurance providers and corporate clients to internal staff regarding the status and processing of claims.
  • Support any other tasks assigned by the supervisor in line with the accounts receivable function.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Accounting, Finance, or a related field from a recognized institution.
  • Relevant professional qualifications such as CPA, ACCA, or CCP.
  • Active membership in a recognized professional body such as ICPAK, ACCA, or ICM.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in accounts receivable or general accounting. Experience in Kenya’s healthcare industry is an added advantage.
  • Strong customer relationship management skills, especially when dealing with internal teams and external partners.
  • Excellent numerical and analytical abilities.
  • High attention to detail, accuracy, and efficiency in handling financial data.
  • Self-motivated individual with the ability to meet targets and perform under minimal supervision.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with healthcare claims, insurance billing, or corporate medical schemes.
  • Proficiency in financial systems, ERPs, or HMIS modules used in healthcare settings.
  • Knowledge of reconciliation processes and credit management practices.
  • Ability to handle high-volume transactions while maintaining accuracy and compliance.
