Job Description

Reporting to the Regional RM Business, the Regional Relationship Manager – Biashara Banking will be responsible for coordinating business development efforts and implementing strategic initiatives across branches in the Nyanza/Western region. The role is critical to achieving the Bank’s targets in customer recruitment, deposit mobilization, loan growth, product uptake, and insurance penetration. It also involves coaching teams, managing performance, and ensuring operational compliance aligned with Equity’s Biashara Banking segment strategy.

Key Responsibilities

1. Monitoring and Quality Management

• Track daily loan origination and identify anomalies or malpractices at the branch level.
• Sample and review loan decisions daily to ensure alignment with policies and risk parameters.
• Engage regularly with staff on arrears management and hold them accountable for collections.
• Monitor compliance with policies and procedures, ensuring internal controls are followed.
• Build strong borrower relationships to minimize delinquency and optimize portfolio performance.

2. Training, Mentorship, and Coaching

• Train and guide branch staff on loan origination, credit evaluation, and customer engagement.
• Conduct refresher training for Branch Credit Committees to improve loan quality.
• Mentor staff to adopt a high-performance culture rooted in Equity’s values.
• Handhold officers in the region to improve adherence to lending processes and standards.

3. Business Growth and Strategy Execution

• Drive Biashara Banking growth through product innovation, partnership development, and regional expansion.
• Identify and manage business aggregators and leverage partnerships to reach new clients.
• Organize marketing activations and ensure follow-through on business leads and closures.
• Contribute to sector strategy formulation and ensure its seamless implementation across branches.

4. Staff Productivity and Talent Management

• Conduct weekly performance reviews with Biashara Banking officers.
• Support talent development and succession planning within the region.
• Identify staffing gaps and collaborate with HR and Regional RM Business to address deployment needs.

5. Customer Service and Brand Representation

• Ensure branch-level service delivery aligns with Bank’s SLA commitments.
• Act as Equity’s brand ambassador within the local business community.
• Support onboarding of ecosystem partners and manage end-to-end ownership of those relationships.

6. Stakeholder Engagement and Reporting

• Liaise with internal and external stakeholders within the region for business development and support.
• Update Segment Head – Biashara Banking on progress and regional performance metrics.
• Handle any other tasks delegated by the line manager.

Required Qualifications

• Business-related university degree from a recognized institution.
• Minimum 6 years of experience as a Relationship Supervisor or equivalent role in Biashara Banking.
• Solid understanding of microfinance, SME lending, and retail banking operations.
• Demonstrated track record in team leadership, business growth, and client relationship management.
