Relationship Officer – Pamoja Banking Role Overview

The Relationship Officer – Pamoja Banking plays a critical role in executing Equity Bank’s group lending and microfinance strategy at the branch level. This position focuses on recruiting, onboarding, training, and managing customer groups while ensuring portfolio growth, credit quality, and compliance with Equity Bank credit policies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct stakeholder engagement and community outreach with chiefs, opinion leaders, and market influencers to mobilize and recruit qualifying groups.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations promoting the Pamoja Banking value proposition to potential group clients.
  • Manage all branch and market inquiries related to Pamoja Banking products.
  • Identify, evaluate, and onboard qualifying microfinance and group lending clients.
  • Support groups with registration at relevant government offices and facilitate KYC documentation for account opening.
  • Establish group governance structures, maintain accurate records, and train group officials.
  • Conduct pre-registration and post-registration training sessions for group members at convenient locations.
  • Mobilize deposits through enforced weekly savings contributions and maintain proper financial documentation.
  • Carry out business and home visits to assess borrower repayment capacity and validate pledged securities.
  • Compile and present credit proposals to the Branch Credit Committee (BCC).
  • Onboard group clients onto the IGLS system, generate reports, and manage end-of-day postings.
  • Ensure credit policy compliance and train branch staff on updates to Pamoja Banking products.
  • Manage loan portfolio quality through post-disbursement visits, collections, and enforcement of co-guarantee mechanisms.
  • Recruit new-to-bank customers to support segment growth and partnership objectives.

Required Qualifications

  • University degree in a business-related course, education, or social sciences, or a diploma in a business-related field.
  • Minimum KCSE mean grade of C+ with C+ in Mathematics.
  • At least 2–3 years of relevant work experience.
  • Strong computer literacy with proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Demonstrated ability in customer relationship management and field-based operations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous sales experience within banking or financial services.
  • Experience in the microfinance industry or group lending environments.
  • Exposure to project management, monitoring, and evaluation.
  • Understanding of credit analysis and loan portfolio management.
