About Save the Children
Save the Children is one of the largest and most respected international NGOs in the world, with a long-standing presence in Kenya dating back to the 1950s. The organization implements both long-term development programmes and life-saving humanitarian interventions, working to protect children and uphold their rights regardless of circumstance.
In Kenya, Save the Children operates across multiple thematic areas including child protection, child rights governance, education, health, HIV/AIDS response, livelihoods, nutrition, and WASH (water, sanitation, and hygiene). The organization delivers programs directly and through strategic partnerships with local organizations.
Save the Children Kenya underwent major structural evolution in 2012 by unifying the operations of Save the Children UK, Canada, and Finland under a single national entity. In 2014, it further integrated Merlin’s health and nutrition programmes into its portfolio, strengthening its operational capacity nationwide. With approximately 230 staff, a 2025 operating budget of USD 20 million, and operations across regions including Garissa, Mandera, Turkana, Wajir, Kakuma, Dadaab, Nandi, and Kajiado, the organization maintains a strong national footprint. Save the Children International is recognized globally for championing children’s rights, responding to emergencies, and influencing policies that protect children worldwide.
