Senior Market Analyst Job Description

The Senior Market Analyst is responsible for undertaking Domestic Debt Management Intelligence, focusing on analysis and reporting across debt and capital markets. The role involves monitoring market developments, managing market data, producing analytical reports, and providing timely advice to CBK Management, the Monetary Policy Committee, and other stakeholders.

This position plays a critical role in enhancing the quality, credibility, and availability of market intelligence used in policy decisions, public communication, and financial market surveillance.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Responsibilities

  • Contribute to divisional policies and strategies aimed at promoting growth, stability, and access within Kenya’s financial markets.
  • Work collaboratively within the Financial Markets Department to deliver on Key Result Areas and demonstrate the competencies required of the role.

Technical and Operational Responsibilities

  • Conduct quantitative and qualitative analysis of financial market data and prepare routine and ad hoc technical reports, policy briefs, speeches, and presentations for CBK Management and other users.
  • Analyse developments in domestic, regional, and international financial markets to inform monetary and debt management policy decisions.
  • Perform daily analysis of media reports and articles on capital market performance and provide informed recommendations.
  • Capture, validate, and maintain market data within the Bank-wide Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW).
  • Develop, maintain, and manage a comprehensive and credible debt market database covering all financial market segments.
  • Prepare proposals and analytical recommendations to support Domestic Debt Management Intelligence initiatives.
  • Conduct debt market surveillance, including monitoring pricing trends and identifying potential price manipulation.
  • Continuously review and assess best-practice debt pricing models within the Central Securities Depository (CSD).
  • Provide timely and accurate market data and analysis to internal and external users.
  • Offer technical advice on debt and capital market developments and emerging issues.
  • Support the work of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) by preparing analytical reports and presentations for MPC meetings.
  • Participate in CBK Communication Committee activities and act as a liaison with the Communications Office on behalf of the Division.
  • Update financial market data and content on the CBK website, ensuring accuracy, completeness, reliability, and timeliness.
  • Draft responses to public and media enquiries related to financial market developments.

Other Responsibilities

  • Perform any other duties and responsibilities as assigned in support of departmental and institutional objectives.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in business, finance, banking, public relations, communication, marketing, information science, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated understanding of financial markets, banking operations, and emerging financial sector issues.

Work Experience

  • At least three (3) years’ relevant work experience in financial markets, debt management, market analysis, or a related field.

Technical Competencies

  • Public financial management and domestic debt portfolio management.
  • Strong understanding of treasury bills, bonds, and other financial market instruments.
  • Portfolio management skills, including interest rate analysis, pricing, and valuation.
  • Knowledge of money markets, capital markets, and derivatives.
  • Ability to conduct market, fundamental, and technical analysis.
  • Understanding of financial markets emerging issues and financial engineering concepts.
  • Strong stakeholder management and investor awareness capabilities.
  • Knowledge of banking laws, regulations, and central banking operations.
