Site Reliability Engineer – Role Overview
The Site Reliability Engineer at 4G Capital will play a critical role in ensuring the reliability, scalability, observability, and performance of the company’s cloud-native infrastructure. This role sits at the intersection of software engineering, cloud operations, and DevOps, with a strong emphasis on automation, monitoring, and proactive incident prevention.
This Site Reliability Engineer role in a fintech environment involves defining and maturing SRE standards across the organization while operating highly available systems on Google Cloud Platform (GCP). The engineer will collaborate closely with DevOps, DevSecOps, IT Operations, Product, and business stakeholders to ensure platforms can scale predictably while supporting rapid business growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and implement organization-wide SRE standards, principles, and best practices aligned with Site Reliability Engineering frameworks.
- Design, deploy, and maintain monitoring, logging, and observability systems to provide real-time insights into system health.
- Establish and manage service reliability metrics, including SLIs and SLOs, aligned to business and customer outcomes.
- Lead capacity planning, performance testing, and demand forecasting for production systems.
- Drive cloud cost optimisation (FinOps) initiatives to ensure cost visibility, efficiency, and governance across GCP workloads.
- Provide reliability and operability guidance during architecture design, system reviews, and technology decisions.
- Operate and continuously improve production platforms built on Google Cloud Platform infrastructure, including Cloud Run, networking, and event-driven services.
- Design and manage infrastructure using Terraform Infrastructure as Code methodologies.
- Participate in incident response, root cause analysis, and post-incident reviews to drive continuous improvement.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to embed reliability, performance, and cost discipline across engineering teams.
Required Qualifications
- Extensive experience operating production systems at scale in a cloud engineering or SRE role.
- Strong hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) in high-availability environments.
- Proven expertise in Terraform and Infrastructure as Code practices.
- Demonstrated ability to build monitoring, observability, and alerting frameworks.
- Practical experience implementing SLIs, SLOs, and service reliability metrics.
- Solid background in capacity planning, performance engineering, and scaling strategies.
- Strong understanding of FinOps, cloud cost optimisation, and cost governance.
- Excellent collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Google Cloud certifications such as Cloud DevOps Engineer or Cloud Architect.
- Experience working in fintech, financial services, or high-growth technology environments.
- Exposure to DevSecOps practices and security-aware infrastructure design.
