Job Description

The Swimming Instructor III will be responsible for delivering high-quality swimming lessons, ensuring safety at the pool facility, and supporting student skill development. This role is vital for ensuring that maritime trainees develop the essential water safety skills required within maritime training programs. With increasing demand for swimming instructor jobs in Kenya and specialized trainer jobs in Mombasa, this position offers a meaningful career path within a structured and well-established government institution.

The instructor will also support pool maintenance, hygiene, and operational efficiency. This includes the use of correct pool treatment chemicals, maintaining daily cleanliness standards, and upholding safety protocols. As part of the MET Department, the instructor works closely with senior trainers, training coordinators, and student groups to ensure efficient lesson delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide structured and professional swimming lessons to students as part of the Academy’s training programs.
  • Administer pool treatment chemicals and conduct scheduled maintenance to ensure a safe and hygienic swimming environment.
  • Perform first aid procedures when necessary and respond to emergencies following safety protocols.
  • Maintain high cleanliness standards within the swimming facility, including cleaning the pool, benches, pool deck, and ensuring proper disposal of waste.
  • Support day-to-day operational activities and any additional swimming-facility-related tasks assigned by trainers or supervisors.

Required Qualifications

  • A Diploma in a relevant field of training, sports science, physical education, or aquatic instruction.
  • At least four (4) years of experience instructing swim lessons or relevant aquatic training.
  • Proficiency in computer applications used for training documentation and reporting.
  • Compliance with the requirements of Chapter 6 of the Constitution of Kenya.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Additional certifications in lifesaving, first aid, CPR, or pool safety management.
  • Experience working in technical training institutions or sports academies.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and student-handling skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a high-discipline training environment.
