The Directorate of Veterinary Services, under the State Department for Livestock Development in the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, invites applications for internship opportunities for veterinary surgeons and veterinary paraprofessionals who graduated in 2025 or earlier. This internship fulfills the statutory requirements of the Veterinary Surgeons and Veterinary Paraprofessionals Act, No. 29 of 2011, Sections 15 (1) and 17 (1).
The program aims to equip recent graduates with hands-on experience in animal health, public veterinary services, and livestock development programs across Kenya. The internship will be guided by the Internship Policy and Guidelines for the Public Service, the Veterinary Surgeons and Veterinary Paraprofessionals Regulations (2013), and the Kenya Veterinary Board Internship Guidelines.

About the Directorate of Veterinary Services
The Directorate of Veterinary Services (DVS) is a key arm of the Government of Kenya under the State Department for Livestock Development. It is mandated to protect, promote, and regulate animal health, animal welfare, and public veterinary practices across the country. Internship Overview
The Veterinary Internship Program 2026 offers structured practical training to new graduates, enabling them to gain essential clinical, technical, and administrative experience in the field of veterinary medicine and animal health. Successful applicants will be placed in both public and field-based veterinary institutions across Kenya, where they will work alongside experienced professionals to strengthen their skills in animal care, disease control, and regulatory practices.
Interns will gain exposure to various operational areas, including livestock disease surveillance, field diagnosis, laboratory procedures, animal inspection, and veterinary extension services. The internship also aims to prepare participants for permanent registration and employment within Kenya’s veterinary sector.
Mandatory Internship Requirements
Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements to be considered for placement:
- Temporary registration as a veterinary intern for the year 2026 by the Kenya Veterinary Board (KVB).
- Certificate of Training (BVM, BSc, Diploma, or Certificate) from a KVB-recognized university or training institution.
- Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) Certificate.
- Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) Certificate.
- National Identity Card.
- Birth Certificate.
- KRA PIN Certificate.
- Valid Certificate of Good Conduct.
- NHIF Card.
- Personal Accident Insurance Cover.
- Active Bank Account in the applicant’s name.
- Two recent passport-sized photographs.
Application Procedure
Step 1: Registration with Kenya Veterinary Board (KVB)
Applicants must first register as interns with the Kenya Veterinary Board by visiting the official website:

Step 2: Application Submission
After receiving the Certificate of Registration as a veterinary intern from KVB, applicants should apply to the Director of Veterinary Services by filling out their personal details in the online Google Form available at the following link:
