About the Function

The Supply Chain and Manufacturing function at Diageo is the backbone of its global operations — connecting sourcing, production, and distribution across continents. With over half of Diageo’s 30,000 employees working in this function, the division thrives on collaboration, problem-solving, and technical innovation. The Kisumu-based agricultural team plays a vital role in ensuring the availability of high-quality local raw materials to support brewing excellence and sustainability goals.

Purpose of the Role

The Agricultural Field Supervisor is responsible for delivering technical agricultural extension services, supporting Kenya Breweries Limited’s Local Raw Material (LRM) program, and ensuring the supply of high-quality brewing cereals such as sorghum. This role focuses on farmer engagement, sustainable sourcing, and digital agriculture to ensure timely delivery of competitively priced raw materials that meet Diageo’s quality and sustainability standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Recruit and manage growers to achieve the targeted tonnage of cereals and starch sources — primarily sorghum — in the right quantity and quality.
  • Source raw materials cost-effectively while maintaining high quality and consistency standards.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate sourcing risks across short-, mid-, and long-term horizons to safeguard supply stability.
  • Develop and strengthen partnerships with suppliers and vendors, promoting inclusion and empowerment of local and diverse suppliers.
  • Deploy and maintain digital farming platforms to track smallholder farmer performance, ensuring accurate traceability and compliance.
  • Deliver agricultural extension services and training on crop management, post-harvest handling, and best agronomic practices.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, development partners, and value chain actors to meet sourcing and production targets.
  • Conduct field assessments to evaluate yield potential, identify storage needs, and address supply deficits early.
  • Implement Diageo’s safety and compliance agenda, ensuring all operations align with local and company policies.
  • Represent Diageo to local authorities and community leaders, promoting awareness of company policies and responsible sourcing practices.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Sciences, Crop Production, Agronomy, or a related discipline.
  • At least 3 years of experience in cereal production (preferably small grains such as sorghum) and 1 year as an Agricultural Extension Worker or Research Officer.
  • Hands-on experience working with smallholder farmers and contract farming systems.
  • Knowledge of farm equipment, planting, spraying, harvesting, and post-harvest operations.
  • Familiarity with the legal aspects of contract farming, soil conservation, and land tenure systems.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

Key Competencies and Skills

  • Excellent stakeholder management and negotiation abilities.
  • Proficiency with digital traceability platforms and agricultural data management tools.
  • Ability to design and deliver farmer training and capacity-building programs.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a collaborative and inclusive mindset.
