Job Description
The Environment Assistant plays a crucial operational role in supporting daily activities at the Effluent Treatment Plant. This position is tailored for individuals seeking technical environmental operations roles, ETP plant operator assistant jobs, or diploma-level jobs in environmental management. The successful candidate will assist in routine plant operations, equipment checks, environmental sampling, and general plant maintenance.
Working closely with senior staff, the officer will help ensure that effluent treatment processes run efficiently, safely, and in compliance with regulatory requirements. The role also includes assisting with environmental monitoring activities, record keeping, minor mechanical troubleshooting, and supporting the company’s commitment to regulatory-aligned operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and check lubrication oil for gas blowers, pumps, and other Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) equipment.
- Collect samples and conduct basic quality tests for routine environmental and effluent analysis.
- Maintain accurate records related to ETP operations, monitoring data, and system performance.
- Conduct daily inspections of the Effluent Treatment Plant and assist in chemical treatment procedures.
- Trim and maintain ponds within the treatment plant to ensure smooth operations and prevent blockages.
- Perform general cleanliness duties across the Effluent Treatment Plant to maintain hygiene and operational standards.
- Remove floating foreign materials from lagoons and ponds as part of routine maintenance.
- Assist in incinerating hazardous waste in compliance with environmental and safety standards.
- Carry out basic machinery diagnosis and troubleshooting to support uninterrupted plant functions.
Required Qualifications
- Diploma in Environmental Studies, Natural Resource Management, Sewerage Technology, or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
- Proficiency in computer applications used for environmental record keeping, monitoring, and reporting.
- Fulfillment of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya.
