Job Description

The Environment Officer I plays a critical role in supporting environmental oversight and sustainability programs within the organization. This entry-level role is tailored for graduates seeking NEMA registered environmental expert jobs or aspiring environmental compliance officers eager to engage in hands-on work that enhances industrial sustainability and regulatory alignment.

This position involves participation in environmental audits, supporting the implementation of environmental management plans, monitoring waste generation, and assisting in effluent analysis. The officer will also contribute to compliance documentation and reporting, ensuring that ACFC meets environmental legislation and occupational safety requirements. Key Responsibilities

  • Support implementation of environmental management plans aligned with regulatory and company policies.
  • Participate in environmental audits and assist with follow-up on recommended action items.
  • Maintain a compliance register aligned with environmental legislation and propose corrective measures when needed.
  • Adhere to occupational health and safety requirements in all assigned areas.
  • Inspect waste generation and disposal processes to promote sustainable waste management.
  • Support implementation of ACFC’s Environmental Management Policy and Occupational Safety Management Policy.
  • Prepare environmental monitoring reports, compliance updates, and technical documentation.
  • Assist with preparation of budget proposals for environmental initiatives and programs.
  • Carry out and interpret effluent monitoring analysis to ensure adherence to regulatory discharge standards.
  • Stay informed on environmental regulatory requirements relevant to NEMA and other Kenyan environmental authorities.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Science, or an equivalent discipline from a recognized institution.
  • Proficiency in computer applications relevant to environmental data processing and reporting.
  • Compliance with Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya.
  • Registered Associate Expert with the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA).
  • Membership in a professional organization such as the Environment Institute of Kenya (EIK) is an added advantage.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience or academic exposure to environmental audits, sustainability assessments, or compliance monitoring.
  • Understanding of laboratory procedures, environmental sampling, and effluent analysis.
  • Knowledge of environmental management systems and industrial sustainability frameworks.
  • Familiarity with occupational safety regulations and environmental risk evaluation.
