About the Role

The Expeditor will coordinate transportation activities across the logistics operation, with a focus on efficient route planning, execution, and customer service. The position requires proactive management of transportation issues, coordination with drivers and logistics partners, and monitoring of operational performance.

The role also involves managing customer and route information, supporting compliance, analyzing transportation data, coordinating documentation, and ensuring internal resources are used effectively to maximize productivity.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Manage the customer database and build effective routes for the dedicated fleet.
• Plan transportation routes efficiently to optimize delivery schedules and minimize transit times.
• Proactively identify and address transportation issues, including delays, route changes, and unforeseen challenges.
• Implement problem-solving strategies to minimize disruptions and maintain service levels.
• Coordinate with drivers, carriers, and logistics partners to ensure timely and accurate execution of transport plans.
• Move customers and orders between routes and individually optimize routes as required.
• Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) relating to transportation efficiency, on-time delivery, and cost-effectiveness.
• Analyze performance data, identify trends, assess operational effectiveness, and recommend improvements.
• Collaborate with regulatory bodies and internal teams to address compliance issues and implement corrective measures.
• Ensure compliance with transportation regulations, safety standards, and documentation requirements.
• Maintain clear and effective communication with drivers and provide necessary information and support during transit.
• Negotiate contracts and terms to optimize service levels and control transportation costs.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with carriers, vendors, and transportation service providers.
• Manage, plan, and utilize internal resources to support maximum productivity.
• Liaise with all levels of management within the FMCG environment.
• Ensure GPS units and other assigned equipment are kept in good working order.
• Maintain excellent customer service for internal and external customers.
• Support change initiatives and work within operating areas as determined by management and business requirements.
• Follow standard operating procedures and safe working practices.
• Ensure all required documentation is completed and properly accounted for.
• Coordinate with Dispatch to ensure accurate information is gathered for reporting.
• Complete daily allocation sheets accurately and on time.
• Report discrepancies to the Transport Manager.
• Record daily information from trip sheets collected from Dispatch Clerks.
• Maintain a polite and professional communication style that promotes respect, goodwill, and trust.
• Keep work areas tidy, safe, and neat at all times.

Qualifications and Experience

• Education: Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
• Experience: At least 3 years of proven experience in transportation operations, with a focus on execution and coordination.
• Transport Operations: Ability to handle large transport networks in near real time.
• Regulatory Knowledge: Knowledge of transportation regulations, safety standards, and compliance requirements.
• Technology: Familiarity with Transportation Management Systems (TMS) and route optimization tools.
• Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convince and engage others.
• Analytical Skills: Ability to review and analyze results and report findings.
• Core Competencies: Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Language: English, both verbal and written.
