High School Counselor

Nova Pioneer is hiring a High School Counselor for a 3-month maternity cover at their Tatu Boys Campus in Kenya, starting in April. This is an opportunity to contribute to a transformative school model focused on the future of Africa’s youth.

Duties and Responsibilitie

• – Model, live, and lead the Nova Culture
• – Collaboratively develop a Comprehensive School Counseling Policy with the Principal
• – Deliver a Comprehensive School Counseling Program
• – Develop and maintain a written plan for effective delivery of the counseling program
• – Communicate the goals of the counseling policy to stakeholders
• – Provide direct services through guidance curriculum, individual student planning, and preventive and responsive services
• – Use data to develop comprehensive programs that meet student needs
• – Provide leadership and collaborate with educators in school-wide integration of best practices
• – Implement appropriate group activities to meet student needs and school goals
• – Assist students individually or in groups with developing academic, career, and personal/social skills
• – Provide individual and group counseling to students with identified concerns and needs
• – Implement an effective referral and follow-up process
• – Provide appropriate information to school personnel related to the counseling program
• – Participate in professional development activities
• – Adhere to laws, policies, procedures, and ethical standards of the counseling profession
• – Collaborate with parents/guardians and educators to assist students with educational, career, and life planning
• – Conduct a yearly audit to review counseling needs and program effectiveness
• – Plan and deliver routine wellness sessions for parents
• – Collaborate with the Learning Design team to incorporate therapy content in lessons
• – Ability to collaborate with the school nurse and other health professionals in case of referrals

Requirements

• – Professional Training in Counseling – Higher National Diploma or Degree in Counseling Psychology
• – Registration with a counselor’s professional body in Kenya
• – 3-5 years of experience in institutional counseling
• – Experience in using assessment tools for determining and structuring individual and group counseling
• – Passion for student welfare and experience in counseling children/teens
• – Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• – Results-driven, goal-oriented, detail-oriented, and conscientious
• – Ability to exercise discretion in handling sensitive matters
• – Flexible and adaptable approach to work
• – Proactive and enthusiastic approach
