Cleaners Job Description

The Cleaners will be responsible for maintaining cleanliness, hygiene, and sanitation across the University’s facilities and compounds. Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out general cleaning, mopping, scrubbing, and sanitizing of floors and surfaces as assigned.
  • Sanitize, clean, and regularly stock restrooms and washrooms.

  • Ensure daily office and campus cleaning, including classrooms, laboratories, and public areas.
  • Operate mechanized cleaning equipment such as vacuum cleaners and floor buffers safely.
  • Maintain sanitary and infection-free conditions through regular washing, cleaning, and replacement of equipment and furnishings.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA 2007 and other relevant health and safety regulations.
  • Report required repairs immediately to the supervisor, including maintenance of toilets, tiles, windows, and furniture.
  • Periodically check for spills, water, or hazards in hostels and public areas and ensure prompt remediation.
  • Use safety precautions while performing housekeeping services and ensure cleaning equipment is properly stored.

Required Qualifications

  • Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE); any post-secondary certificate is an added advantage.
  • At least 2 years of experience in cleaning or housekeeping.
  • Basic digital awareness and ability to responsibly use simple digital tools for work duties.
  • Understanding of safety protocols and basic compliance standards.
  • Committed Christian with high moral and ethical standing aligned to the University’s vision and mission.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience working in educational institutions or similar large facilities.
  • Knowledge of cleaning equipment operation and preventive maintenance.
  • Familiarity with environmental hygiene standards and infection control measures.
