Procurement Intern – Finance & Strategy | SBM Bank Kenya

SBM Bank Kenya is offering a unique opportunity for recent graduates to launch their careers through a structured procurement internship in Kenya. As a Procurement Intern within our Finance & Strategy Department, you will support day-to-day operations that drive the Bank’s sourcing, contract management, and vendor engagement activities.

Job Summary

The intern will contribute to the delivery of effective purchasing services across the Bank while supporting the development of best-practice procurement and supply chain procedures. This internship is designed to give you exposure to real-world procurement jobs in Kenya, within a reputable financial institution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receive and review requisitions from departments to ensure specifications are clear and complete.
  • Assist in preparing and issuing Requests for Quotations (RFQs) to pre-qualified vendors, analyzing responses, and coordinating award processes.
  • Support the management of the contract repository by tracking key renewal and expiry timelines.
  • Work with user departments to initiate contract processes and follow through on approvals and documentation.
  • Prepare and issue Local Purchase Orders (LPOs) while ensuring compliance with Bank policy.
  • Monitor supplier deliveries for accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with agreed specifications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Procurement & Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Student or graduate member of a professional body such as KISM or CIPS is an added advantage.
  • Knowledge of procurement procedures and basic understanding of contract management principles.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time-management abilities.
