Manager, Market Development Job Description
The Manager, Market Development is responsible for leading initiatives that enhance market liquidity, expand investor participation, and introduce innovative financial products. This role oversees strategic product development, debt market monitoring, and liaison with internal and external stakeholders, including government entities, investors, and market associations. The role contributes directly to CBK’s mission of promoting an efficient, transparent, and well-regulated financial market in Kenya.
The successful candidate will develop and implement strategies for benchmark bonds, liability management operations, green bonds, infrastructure bonds, derivative products, and other debt instruments. They will also manage market development projects, support policy reforms, and guide staff in executing departmental objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide business cases and proposals for market development initiatives and innovative products including benchmark bonds, liability management operations, green bonds, onshore/offshore bonds, and financial derivatives.
- Develop proposals for CSD-integrated products such as zero-coupon bonds, amortized bonds, embedded option bonds, indexed bonds, step-up/step-down bonds, Islamic Sukuk, mortgage-backed securities, and negotiable deposits.
- Plan, implement, monitor, and evaluate market development projects in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
- Lead product development including design, pricing, systems requirements, testing, and ongoing monitoring.
- Support benchmark bond and infrastructure bond programs to enhance market liquidity and investor confidence.
- Represent the Division in industry committees and taskforces, including FSC subcommittees, MAC of the EAC, FIIT, and Bond Market Development Committees.
- Analyze financial market data and prepare technical reports, presentations, and recommendations for departmental meetings and policy decisions.
- Maintain records of meetings and provide secretariat support for borrowing programs.
- Develop and execute marketing, public relations, and investor communication strategies for market products.
- Oversee staff performance management, capacity building, succession planning, coaching, and mentorship.
- Ensure compliance with CBK policies, regulations, and statutory guidelines.
- Prepare ad hoc and periodic reports and coordinate with other departments to achieve organizational goals.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance, Banking, Public Relations, Communication, Marketing, Information Science, or related field from a recognized institution.
- Master’s Degree in Business, Finance, Banking, Public Relations, or a professional qualification in a relevant field is an added advantage.
Work Experience
- At least eight (8) years of experience in a financial-related field, with a minimum of three (3) years in debt management at a supervisory level.
Technical Competencies
- Knowledge of public financial and domestic debt management, T-bills, bonds, and other financial market instruments.
- Proficiency in portfolio management, interest rate analysis, and pricing evaluation.
- Understanding of money markets, capital markets, derivatives, and financial engineering.
- Experience with CS-DRMS systems, central banking operations, budgeting, planning, and analytical reporting.
- Awareness of national, regional, and international financial regulations, client relations, risk management, and operational processes.
