Midwife Nurse

About the Role:

Avenue Hospital Parklands is looking for a skilled Midwife Nurse to provide professional and compassionate maternity nursing care to patients. The successful candidate will work closely with the clinical team to ensure high-quality care throughout the childbirth journey, adhering to hospital protocols and nursing standards.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Patient Care and Education:

•    – Guide patients through the childbirth process, offering quality care and support
•    – Implement comprehensive care plans for prepartum, intrapartum, post-partum, and newborn care
•    – Educate patients and families about treatment options, potential side effects, and lifestyle changes
•    – Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality at all times

2. Nursing Protocols and Patient Monitoring:

•    – Administer nursing protocols according to policies and guidelines
•    – Monitor, assess, and chart patients’ conditions and responses to treatment
•    – Adjust treatment plans as necessary based on patients’ physical and psycho-social status

3. Documentation and Communication:

•    – Ensure proper documentation of patient notes, reviews, and legal documents
•    – Update doctors and consultants on patient progress and critical values promptly
•    – Participate actively in ward rounds and handover reports

4. Medication Management:

•    – Adhere to the 10 rights of drug administration
•    – Maintain accurate drug registers and ensure proper storage of medications
•    – Submit new drug orders to pharmacy promptly and administer STAT doses within 30 minutes

5. Infection Control and Patient Safety:

•    – Maintain and enforce infection control standards as per hospital manual
•    – Follow the 6 International Patient Safety Goals (IPSGs)
•    – Organize and maintain emergency trolleys for efficient use during resuscitations

6. Financial Management and Supervision:

•    – Contribute to the unit’s financial viability through accurate billing and cost management
•    – Supervise Patient Attendants and ensure adherence to their job descriptions

7. Compliance and Professional Development:

•    – Adhere to Avenue Healthcare corporate governance policies and procedures
•    – Stay updated on and comply with government and professional nursing standards
•    – Participate in ongoing professional development and training

Requirements:

• – Diploma in Midwifery Nursing
• – Valid BLS, ACLS, ETAT+, and Emoc Certifications
• – Current Nursing License from the Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK)
• – Minimum of 3 years of experience in a busy Maternity Ward
• – Strong critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills
• – Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a team
• – High ethical standards and commitment to patient care
• – Empathetic, reliable, and customer-focused attitude
