UNDP Somalia is seeking an experienced Procurement Associate to join their team in Nairobi, Kenya. This fixed-term position offers a one-year contract with the possibility of extension, providing an excellent opportunity for procurement professionals to contribute to UNDP’s strategic procurement initiatives that support sustainable development goals.
About the Procurement Associate Role at UNDP
As a Procurement Associate, you will play a crucial role in ensuring UNDP’s procurement practices are effective, transparent, and align with the organization’s competitive advantage as a development partner. The successful candidate will lead the Procurement Unit’s support staff while implementing innovative and sustainable procurement strategies.
Key Responsibilities
Procurement Strategy Implementation
- – Ensure full compliance with UNDP rules, regulations, and policies while maintaining transparency and integrity in all procurement activities
- – Establish internal Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and map procurement business processes
- – Conduct research to support the development of comprehensive contract strategies
- – Implement sustainable procurement practices that minimize environmental impact and maximize positive social outcomes
Procurement Process Management
- – Consolidate and monitor procurement plans for the country office and projects
- – Organize end-to-end procurement processes including preparation of RFQs, ITBs, and RFPs
- – Review submissions to internal procurement committees
- – Prepare purchase orders and contracts in e-procurement systems
- – Implement harmonized procurement services across UN agencies
Sourcing Strategy Development
- – Build and maintain supplier rosters
- – Implement effective supplier selection and evaluation processes
- – Utilize e-procurement tools to secure best value in the marketplace
Knowledge Building and Sharing
- – Organize procurement training for operations and project staff
- – Conduct vendor training on e-procurement modules
- – Document and share procurement best practices and lessons learned
- – Contribute to knowledge networks and communities of practice
Requirements
Education
- – Secondary education is required
- – University degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Finance, or Economics is advantageous
- – CIPS level 3 certification is highly desirable
Experience
- – Minimum 7 years of relevant experience with high school diploma OR 4 years with bachelor’s degree
- – At least 3 years managing public sector procurement of goods and services is preferred
- – Proficiency in computers and office software packages
- – Experience with web-based management systems such as ERP
- – Demonstrated ability in implementing procurement strategies and policies
- – Experience with sourcing strategies and e-procurement tools
Language Skills
- – Fluency in English is required
- – Fluency in Swahili is required for local staff
