Senior Market Surveillance Job Description
The Senior Market Surveillance officer is responsible for monitoring, analyzing, and reporting on the domestic and regional financial markets to support informed decision-making by CBK management. This role contributes to the development and implementation of market products, ensures compliance with regulatory standards, and coordinates market intelligence and research initiatives.
The position plays a critical role in overseeing enterprise data warehouse activities, real-time market surveillance, emerging product research, fintech adoption such as blockchain and AI, and preparing technical reports and presentations for management and the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC).
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct real-time surveillance of domestic and regional financial markets to identify trends, risks, and emerging issues.
- Support product development initiatives, including derivatives, asset-backed securities (ABS), global depository receipts (GDRs), and other innovative financial instruments.
- Research and analyze financial technologies such as blockchain, artificial intelligence, and other fintech innovations to inform market strategy.
- Prepare management reports, including briefs, speeches, presentations, and speaking notes for CBK leadership and MPC meetings.
- Coordinate international and regional initiatives, including missions with IMF, World Bank, and other stakeholders.
- Manage market data, enterprise data warehouse activities, and website updates to ensure accurate and timely information dissemination.
- Coordinate strategy formulation and implementation across the Financial Markets Department.
- Ensure adherence to CBK policies, regulations, statutory guidelines, and governance standards.
- Prepare periodic and ad hoc reports on departmental activities, providing actionable insights for management decisions.
- Collaborate effectively with other departments and act as an active team player to achieve organizational objectives.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Banking, or related field from a recognized institution.
Work Experience
- Minimum of three (3) years of relevant work experience for Senior Officer roles, preferably in market surveillance, financial analysis, or related areas.
Technical Competencies
- Knowledge of domestic debt management, treasury management, and central banking operations.
- Understanding of money markets, capital markets, derivatives, interest rates, and pricing mechanisms.
- Strong analytical skills for market analysis, fundamental and technical analysis, portfolio management, and pricing evaluation.
- Familiarity with investment policies, financial engineering, and accounting and taxation implications.
- Awareness of emerging financial markets issues and fintech innovations.
