Tax Regulatory Senior Associate Job Description

The Tax Regulatory Senior Associate will work within a multi-disciplinary team to provide regulatory compliance advisory, tax audit support, dispute resolution services, and corporate structuring advice. The role supports implementation of the Tax & Regulatory Services strategy while maintaining strong client and regulator relationships.

This Senior Associate vacancy in Nairobi requires expertise in tax compliance, commercial law, and corporate restructuring. The successful candidate will manage assignments from planning through execution, ensuring high-quality deliverables that align with client expectations and firm standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead regulatory and tax corporate restructuring assignments and ensure quality output.
  • Advise clients on regulatory compliance, tax audits, and dispute resolution matters.
  • Draft and submit high-quality proposals for regulatory and tax engagements, supporting new business development.
  • Train clients and staff on emerging tax and regulatory developments.
  • Draft and review thought leadership materials including articles and regulatory alerts.
  • Coach and mentor junior team members to strengthen service delivery.
  • Develop and maintain key client relationships and manage stakeholder engagement.
  • Review internal risk processes prior to onboarding new clients.
  • Maintain accurate client files for internal and external compliance reviews.
  • Coordinate with internal KPMG business units and regional tax offices.
  • Ensure timely billing and follow-up on client payments.
  • Meet engagement deadlines set by Managers and clients.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Law from an accredited institution.
  • Advocate of the High Court with at least four years of post-admission experience in a busy commercial law firm.
  • Minimum of 4–5 years of experience in tax compliance and advisory within an accounting firm or similar environment.
  • Strong exposure to commercial law, corporate law, and tax dispute resolution.
  • Excellent knowledge of tax laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Strong analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and Access.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional certifications such as ACCA or CPA.
  • Working knowledge of accounting information systems and tax tools.
  • Experience interacting with C-level executives and senior regulators.
  • Ability to manage multiple engagements and client service teams simultaneously.
