About the Role

The Assistant Manager – Marketing and Development will support the planning, coordination and evaluation of the Corporation’s marketing and business development strategies. The position contributes to business acquisition, client relationship management, market research and the development of initiatives aimed at expanding the reinsurance portfolio.

The role involves working with internal divisions, clients, suppliers, regulatory bodies and other stakeholders while supporting both local and international market activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in developing documentation for new products, services and infrastructure, including policies, procedures, methodologies and quality standards.
  • Plan, coordinate and evaluate marketing plans and strategies in consultation with the Underwriting Division.
  • Support divisional managers in formulating, evaluating and implementing selected business development initiatives.
  • Source facultative and treaty reinsurance business from local and international markets.
  • Assist with research and development of new products, including feasibility studies.
  • Design appropriate technical support and training programmes for clients and maintain relevant client organisational and performance records.
  • Organise stakeholder engagement activities, including golf tournaments, cocktails, seminars and workshops, and support liaison and protocol arrangements for local and international corporate guests.
  • Gather local and international market intelligence and compile statistics relating to the Corporation’s reinsurance activities and the wider market.
  • Compile the monthly insurance and reinsurance news publication, The Market Perspective, and collect annual accounts, reports and market returns from insurance and reinsurance companies.
  • Develop and review professional marketing materials, maintain the Corporation’s client directory, and keep custody of marketing reports from officers who have travelled abroad.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, including General Science, Statistics or Mathematics; Actuarial Science; Commerce in Insurance, Marketing or Business Administration; Business Administration in Finance or Accounting; Business Management in Finance or Accounting; Strategic Management; or an equivalent qualification from a recognised institution.
  • Master’s degree in Science, Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Commerce, Business Administration (MBA), Business Management in Finance or Strategic Management, or an equivalent qualification from a recognised institution.
  • Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute (ACII – London or Kenya), or an equivalent qualification from a recognised institution.
  • Membership of the Insurance Institute of Kenya (IIK), or its equivalent, in good standing.
  • A management course lasting at least four weeks from a recognised institution.
  • Proficiency in computer applications.
  • At least 12 years of relevant work experience, including at least three years at supervisory level in a reputable organisation.
  • Demonstrated merit, managerial capability and professional competence through work performance and results.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong analytical, negotiation, problem-solving and attention-to-detail skills.
  • Superior planning, organising and time-management skills, with the ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Fulfilment of the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya.
