Associate – Debt Recovery Jobs in Kenya

The Associate – Debt Recovery will be responsible for monitoring, managing, and recovering problem loan accounts across various customer segments. The successful candidate will implement recovery strategies, negotiate repayment arrangements, manage customer relationships, and work closely with internal and external stakeholders to minimize credit losses while ensuring compliance with regulatory and internal policies.

The role also involves litigation support, recovery reporting, collateral management, impairment monitoring, and maintaining accurate debt recovery records. Key Responsibilities

  • Manage assigned problem loan accounts to improve portfolio performance and reduce non-performing loans.
  • Demand, negotiate, and enforce repayment of overdue customer accounts.
  • Achieve assigned debt recovery and write-back targets within established timelines.
  • Monitor customer repayment arrangements and ensure agreed payment plans are honored.
  • Represent the Bank during public auctions involving recovery of secured assets.
  • Collaborate with the Legal Department on recovery litigation, legal processes, and debt enforcement matters.
  • Negotiate loan restructuring, turnaround strategies, and repayment solutions with customers.
  • Evaluate and recommend recovery strategies that support loan rehabilitation and credit risk reduction.
  • Manage customer relationships during restructuring and recovery processes.
  • Coordinate with internal departments, service providers, asset buyers, and other stakeholders throughout the recovery process.
  • Represent the Bank during lender meetings involving syndicated or problem credit facilities.
  • Prepare reports for Credit Committees, Non-Performing Assets Committees, and Credit Risk Management Committees.
  • Support impairment management, provisioning activities, and management information reporting.
  • Maintain accurate debt recovery documentation, file notes, customer notices, and portfolio records.
  • Ensure data integrity, quality control, and compliance throughout the debt recovery process.
  • Comply with legal, regulatory, audit, and internal policy requirements relating to debt recovery operations.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Finance, Economics, Mathematics, or another quantitative or related discipline.
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in a credit recovery or debt recovery role.
  • Knowledge of lending legislation, debt recovery processes, and portfolio management.
  • Demonstrated ability to consistently achieve recovery and collections targets.
  • Strong analytical, negotiation, and customer relationship management skills.
