About the Role

The Electrical Engineer Supervisor leads a team of skilled tradespersons under the supervision of the Senior Facility Manager. The position is responsible for the operation, maintenance and performance of electrical power distribution systems serving the New Embassy Compound and operating leased properties.

The role covers complex electrical infrastructure, including generators, transformers, medium- and low-voltage switchgear, automatic transfer switches, motor control centers, distribution panels, feeder wiring, lighting, power outlets, fire alarm components and uninterruptible power supply systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the operation and maintenance of complex electrical systems and equipment, including generators, transformers, switchgear and UPS systems.
• Resolve complex electrical faults and restore systems to their designed operating parameters with minimal disruption to operations.
• Direct subordinate electrical technicians and monitor contracted service providers implementing maintenance and repair work.
• Manage preventive maintenance programs using KPIs to assess equipment and system performance.
• Provide budget input for maintenance, repairs, replacement costs, tools, equipment and spare parts.
• Support the Senior Facility Manager with work and project status briefings and technical information for management meetings.
• Maintain the electrical department’s Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), including documentation and closure of scheduled and unscheduled maintenance events.
• Conduct safety training covering PPE, lock-out/tag-out procedures, ladder safety and confined-space entry requirements.
• Inspect facilities for compliance with fire and life safety requirements and develop deficiency reports with recommended solutions and cost estimates.
• Prepare engineering drawings, specifications, scopes of work and cost estimates for construction, repairs, overhauls and equipment replacement.

Required Qualifications

• A four-year Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related engineering degree from an accredited university program is required.
• The engineering curriculum must be accredited or equivalent to an ABET-accredited professional engineering curriculum or recognized by the host-country engineering board.
• At least 5 years of experience working as a project engineer or engineer managing preventive maintenance programs in a manufacturing plant, major resort, hospital, office complex or large university/school system.
• At least 1 year of experience supervising or managing 5 or more subordinates.
• English Level 4 proficiency in speaking, reading and writing.
• Kiswahili Level 4 proficiency in speaking, reading and writing.
• Knowledge of electrical theory, Ohm’s law, electrical equipment sizing, testing, fault diagnosis and repair.
• Knowledge of electrical safety procedures, including lock-out/tag-out requirements.
• Knowledge of electrical engineering design, construction practices, U.S. electrical codes and specifications.
• Ability to use AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, Excel, MS Project and engineering management software.
• Ability to read electrical drawings, riser diagrams, wiring schematics, equipment schedules and construction documents.
• Ability to prepare electrical engineering cost estimates, reports, construction inspection logs and technical briefings.
• Ability to lift and carry tools, equipment or parts weighing up to 25 kilograms.
• Strong organizational, interpersonal, independent-working, initiative, judgment and confidentiality skills.
