About the Role
The Surveillance Detection Monitor works within the Regional Security Office and spends approximately 90% of the position’s duties conducting surveillance detection. The role involves observing the environment around U.S. facilities and personnel, identifying potentially suspicious or hostile surveillance activity and reporting relevant observations.
The remaining 10% of the role focuses on reporting findings. The position requires strong observation skills, familiarity with surveillance techniques and the ability to communicate observations through verbal and written reports.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct surveillance detection activities around U.S. facilities and personnel.
- Observe surroundings for suspicious activity or indications of hostile surveillance.
- Identify activities that may present security concerns.
- Report surveillance findings through clear verbal and written communication.
- Initiate emergency response procedures when required.
- Use communications equipment, cameras and basic IT systems in support of surveillance detection duties.
- Record relevant information and perform data entry when required.
- Apply knowledge of local geography and culture when conducting surveillance detection activities.
Required Qualifications
- Secondary school or high school diploma, or equivalent qualification.
- At least 1 year of military, police or private security experience.
- English Level 2, representing limited proficiency.
- Kiswahili Level 3, representing good working knowledge.
- A valid basic driver’s license.
- Ability to work with communications equipment, cameras and basic IT systems.
- Strong observation skills.
- Knowledge of surveillance techniques.
- Knowledge of local geography and culture.
Eligibility
This Surveillance Detection Monitor vacancy is open to current U.S. Mission employees and U.S. Citizen Eligible Family Members (USEFMs) across all agencies. Applicants should confirm that they meet the stated internal eligibility requirements before submitting an application.

- Annual salary: KES 1,388,768.
