Job Purpose
Reporting to the Deputy Manager, Payables Section, the Finance Officer, Payables (Business Analyst 1) is responsible for managing the day-to-day payables activities to ensure compliance with laws, regulations, standards, policies, procedures, and internal controls. This role is critical for professionals aiming for accounts payable management jobs in Kenya, financial reporting roles in the public sector, and payables business analyst careers.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Responsibilities: Enhance payables internal controls, ensuring compliance with Finance Policy and Payables Standard Operating Procedures.
- Technical and Operational Responsibilities:
- Review and process supplier invoices, staff claims, imprests, and Board Director’s allowances.
- Capture and record data related to supplier invoices, staff claims, imprests, and Director allowances.
- Perform bank account reconciliations to ensure accuracy of financial records.
- Correctly compute withholding tax and prepare schedules for returns to KRA.
- File payment documents in an organized manner for ease of retrieval during audits.
- Conduct daily reconciliation of payables accounts.
- Prompt resolution of staff advances (imprests).
- Respond promptly and professionally to supplier queries.
- Reconcile payables-related General Ledger accounts.
- Other Responsibilities: Perform any other roles and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor to support finance operations and public sector accounting jobs Kenya.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field from a reputable university.
- Professional accounting qualification (CPA, ACCA, or equivalent).
- Membership of ICPAK or ACCA.
- Minimum of 3 years post-qualification experience in a busy accounting-related environment with exposure to payables management, financial reporting roles, and branch accounts operations.
Technical Competencies
- Good understanding of payables management and processes, including supplier payments and staff reimbursements.
- Strong knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
- Understanding of Public Finance Management Act, Public Procurement and Asset Disposal Act, and other relevant legislation.
- Familiarity with payables modules and ERP systems.
- Good knowledge of bank policies on payments and financial analysis.
- Understanding of taxation laws and KRA compliance.
- Analytical acumen for account reconciliations and problem-solving.
