Job Description

The Clerk of Works Intern will play a crucial support role in the daily supervision and quality assurance of SIC’s housing projects. This internship is perfect for candidates seeking entry-level construction jobs in Nairobi and who want to gain hands-on experience in managing real estate development sites. The successful applicant will work closely with structural, mechanical, and electrical engineers to ensure project execution aligns with design specifications and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist project consultants and developers with onsite quality control and daily coordination.
  • Support in documenting project progress, staffing logs, and material delivery records.
  • Conduct site visits and ensure compliance with building codes and safety regulations.
  • Help verify that construction materials and workmanship meet project specifications.
  • Perform regular information audits to ensure updated documents are used onsite.
  • Report technical site issues or risks to the relevant project consultant in a timely manner.
  • Attend internal and external project coordination meetings as required.
  • Witness testing and commissioning of systems and maintain result logs.
  • Ensure that all contractor instructions are properly recorded and contractually documented.
  • Collaborate with engineers to interpret and implement architectural and structural plans.
  • Assist in monitoring civil and MEP services implementation daily.
  • Support joint setting out of survey controls with the contractor’s site agent.

Required Qualifications

  • A diploma or degree in Architecture, Building and Construction, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of basic construction principles and project documentation.
  • Familiarity with health, safety, and environmental compliance on building sites.
  • Effective communication and reporting skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior internship or hands-on experience with housing or infrastructure development projects.
  • Knowledge of Kenyan building codes and real estate construction standards.
  • Comfortable working with contractors, consultants, and project managers on site.
  • Basic computer skills including MS Office and construction management tools.
