Municipal Managers

Machakos County
The County Government of Machakos is seeking exceptional leaders to serve as Municipal Managers for three key municipalities:
- – Machakos Municipality
- – Mavoko Municipality
- – Tala/Kangundo Municipality
Position Overview
This is a strategic leadership role offered on a five-year contract basis, responsible for overseeing municipal operations and development initiatives across these vital urban centers in Machakos County.
Key Responsibilities
The Municipal Manager will be tasked with:
Financial Management & Planning
- – Develop and present annual revenue and expenditure estimates to the Municipal Board
- – Prepare and manage the annual municipal budget
- – Oversee proper administration of municipal assets and utilities
Leadership & Stakeholder Management
- – Build and maintain strong partnerships between the Municipal Board and stakeholders including civil society, private sector, and community organizations
- – Implement Board decisions and strategic initiatives
- – Serve as Secretary to the Municipal Board
Administrative Oversight
- – Enforce municipal charters, county legislation, and relevant laws
- – Develop and implement administrative policies
- – Structure and manage municipal departments effectively
- – Supervise municipal staff and exercise disciplinary control
- – Manage municipal assets and properties
Qualification Requirements
Essential Criteria
- – Kenyan citizenship
- – Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university
- – Minimum 18 years of management experience
- – Must meet Chapter Six requirements of the Constitution
Additional Information
- – The successful candidate must demonstrate strong leadership abilities and excellent stakeholder management skills
- – Experience in urban development and municipal administration is highly valued
- – Knowledge of county government operations and public administration is essential
