Chief Engineering Technician (Automotive) Job Description – Automotive Engineering Jobs in Kenya

The Chief Engineering Technician (Automotive) will provide technical leadership in the maintenance, inspection, repair, and management of motor vehicles, plant equipment, and automotive systems. The role includes supervising engineering teams, ensuring compliance with technical standards, and supporting procurement, quality control, and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement policies, standards, regulations, and strategies relating to automotive engineering services.
  • Diagnose and analyze mechanical and electrical faults in motor vehicles, plant, and equipment.
  • Supervise maintenance, servicing, and repair of motor vehicles and engineering equipment.
  • Coordinate inspections to ensure compliance with quality standards and technical specifications.
  • Supervise pre-delivery and post-repair inspections for quality assurance and cost control.
  • Verify automotive spare parts, accessories, and technical specifications.
  • Conduct vehicle valuation assessments related to accidents, repairs, and investigations.
  • Supervise technical workshop operations and engineering service delivery.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, quality control, and engineering regulations.
  • Participate in tender preparation, specification development, and technical evaluations.
  • Prepare technical reports, progress reports, work plans, and maintenance schedules.
  • Supervise installation, testing, and maintenance of automotive electrical systems.
  • Maintain engineering records, inventories, and technical documentation.
  • Mentor and guide engineering technicians working under the officer.

Required Qualifications – Automotive Engineering Jobs in Kenya

  • At least twelve (12) years cumulative relevant experience, including three (3) years in the grade of Senior Engineering Technician (Automotive) or a comparable position.
  • Technician Part III in Automotive Engineering or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
  • Alternatively, a Diploma in Automotive Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering, or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
  • Registration with the Kenya Engineering Technology Registration Board (KETRB) as a Certified Engineering Technician.
  • Valid annual practicing license issued by KETRB.
  • Certificate in Supervisory Skills lasting at least two (2) weeks from a recognized institution.
  • Valid driving license and proficiency in computer applications.
  • Candidates pursuing engineering careers in Kenya should demonstrate technical leadership, professional competence, and proven performance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing government or large organizational fleets.
  • Strong knowledge of automotive electrical and mechanical systems.
