About the Role

The Senior Software Engineer – LMS & MIS will proactively lead the LMS/MIS roadmap and technical solutions while collaborating with Finance, Credit, Data, and other departments. The role is central to strengthening Pezesha’s core banking infrastructure and supporting operational efficiency across Kenya and Uganda.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design and implementation of the LMS/MIS roadmap and associated technical solutions.
• Manage and resolve LMS/MIS issues raised by Finance, Credit, Data, and other internal teams.
• Define and evolve the LMS/MIS roadmap into a robust core banking module for internal use.
• Develop scalable, long-term solutions for recurring LMS issues.
• Lead core banking technology strategy and maintain a sustainable technical foundation.
• Automate manual processes and configurations to provide DIY capabilities and reduce dependency on Technology teams.
• Prepare comprehensive technical documentation and conduct training sessions for relevant teams.
• Lead weekly LMS workstream meetings and manage priorities and actions using the issue tracker.
• Act as the primary point of contact for Finance and other departments on LMS-related matters.
• Drive proactive problem-solving through collaboration with cross-functional teams.

Key Performance Indicators

• Execute 100% of issues reported by Finance and other internal users as recorded in the LMS issue tracker.
• Provide feedback and progress updates on LMS issues within 24 hours.
• Complete monthly financial system closure and related LMS support by the 5th of each month.
• Implement APIs or configurations that enable DIY functionality for internal teams.
• Provide LMS support to Kenya and Uganda teams within a 24-hour SLA.
• Maintain zero major technology losses, with Root Cause Analysis showing no losses exceeding KES 20,000.
• Maintain documentation for LMS implementations and conduct monthly peer training sessions with developers.
• Demonstrate senior-level ownership, communication, proactive task updates, and timely responses.
• Establish a strong technical foundation for the LMS as a Service module planned for launch in 2026.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
• At least 5 years of experience as a Software Engineer or in a similar role, preferably in fintech, banking, or lending platforms.
• Strong understanding of LMS and MIS workflows, lending processes, and financial reporting.
• Hands-on experience with backend technologies such as PHP, Java, C#, Python, or Node.js.
• Experience with frontend frameworks such as React or NextJS for dashboards and reporting interfaces.
• Knowledge of relational databases such as PostgreSQL and MySQL, as well as NoSQL databases such as MongoDB.
• Experience designing RESTful APIs and integrating third-party services.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms including GCP, AWS, or Azure and containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
• Understanding of data security, encryption, and regulatory compliance, including GDPR, PCI-DSS, and applicable financial regulations.
• Strong problem-solving, attention to detail, communication, and collaboration skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience building or maintaining Loan Management Systems or Core Banking Systems.
• Experience with Business Intelligence and MIS reporting tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or Metabase.
• Knowledge of microservices architecture and event-driven systems.
• Familiarity with credit scoring models, risk management systems, and fintech lending platforms.
• Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies.
