Student Researcher Job Description
The Student Researcher Program fosters academic collaboration by placing students on research projects aligned with company priorities in scientific advancement. This position is designed for individuals currently pursuing a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD degree who want direct exposure to real-world, large-scale problem solving.
Selected candidates contribute to exploratory projects spanning Natural Language Understanding, Human-Computer Interaction, Generative Media, Computer Vision, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Optimization, Quantum Information Science, Data Science, and Software Engineering. Students are matched with teams across Google Research, Google DeepMind, Google Cloud, and other research units to ensure alignment between skills and project goals.
Student Researcher opportunities vary in duration and scope depending on team needs and academic schedules. Participants must remain located in one of the approved country locations for the full engagement period. Key Responsibilities

- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD degree in Computer Science, Linguistics, Statistics, Biostatistics, Applied Mathematics, Operations Research, Economics, Natural Sciences, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience in at least one core computer science domain such as Machine Learning, Computer Vision, Human-Computer Interaction, Data Science, or Software Engineering.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills suitable for research-focused roles.
- Ability to work effectively in collaborative, fast-paced research environments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Enrollment in a full-time degree program in EMEA with plans to return after internship completion.
- Prior research experience through internships, academic labs, or full-time roles.
- Experience publishing papers in recognized conferences or journals.
- Proficiency in one or more programming languages such as C/C++, Java, MATLAB, Go, or Python.
