About the Role

The Waitstaff will be responsible for delivering friendly, timely and accurate food and beverage service to guests. The position combines customer service, suggestive selling, order processing, payment handling, restaurant cleanliness, stock support and adherence to standard operating procedures.

Key Responsibilities

Customer Service and Table Service

  • Welcome, greet and seat guests in a timely and courteous manner.
  • Present menu options and use suggestive selling based on customer preferences.
  • Assist guests in navigating the menu and explain menu changes and daily specials.
  • Present menus and answer questions about food, beverages, restaurant functions and services.
  • Take food and beverage orders accurately and deliver them promptly according to ticket specifications.
  • Monitor guests’ dining experiences, respond courteously to concerns and notify the manager where necessary.
  • Present bills on time and provide guests with the correct change.
  • Collaborate with team members to maintain a positive customer experience.

Restaurant Operations

  • Clear tables and clean counters after guests have finished dining.
  • Maintain table condiments and ensure stations are clean, organized and properly managed.
  • Ensure general restaurant cleaning is completed and high hygiene standards are maintained.
  • Check the quality of final servings and address issues in line with recommended food and beverage standards.
  • Attend shift briefings and communicate appropriately with guests and colleagues.
  • Ensure necessary orders for proper mise en place are communicated to the manager.
  • Communicate maintenance and IT issues to the Area Manager.
  • Perform branch closing duties.

Cash, POS and Orders

  • Ensure sufficient change is available at all times.
  • Maintain shift float money and ensure there are no shortages.
  • Close counter variances on time.
  • Take care of counter machines and other assigned equipment.
  • Key customer orders into the Point of Sale (POS) system accurately.
  • Receive orders from aggregator tabs, pack them and dispatch them to guests.
  • Order required items in Vuka for the store.
  • Receive items from Foodscape and other suppliers.
  • Support accurate stock taking and proper utilization of company resources.

Key Accountabilities and Performance Areas

  • Meet, greet and seat guests efficiently.
  • Provide prompt food and beverage order service.
  • Maintain clean, clear and organized dining areas and service stations.
  • Assist guests with menu navigation and product information.
  • Maintain compliance with cleanliness and food safety standards.
  • Support customer satisfaction and service quality.
  • Promote menu products and support sales performance.
  • Ensure proper stock management and accurate stock taking.
  • Maintain effective station management.
  • Adhere to company SOPs and service standards.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • KCSE certificate with a minimum mean grade of C Plain.
  • At least one year of experience.
  • At least six months’ experience with the company or equivalent skills from a food and beverage setup.
  • Ability to work under pressure and for long hours.
  • Ability to upsell and inform guests about new menu products.
  • Customer-oriented approach.
