Absa Bank Kenya is inviting applications for the role of Business Development Manager – Bancassurance. This is a full-time opportunity based at the Absa Headquarters (Kenya), ideal for professionals with a strong background in the insurance and banking sectors. The role plays a critical part in driving revenue growth and expanding market share within the insurance arm of the bank, Absa Bancassurance.

Job Summary

The selected candidate will be responsible for identifying and developing new business opportunities, nurturing client relationships, and implementing strategic plans to increase Absa Bancassurance’s reach and profitability. The Business Development Manager will also manage insurance advisory for the bank’s internal programs while ensuring regulatory compliance and service excellence.

Key Responsibilities and Deliverables

Revenue Growth and Lead Generation

  • Generate and convert leads to meet annual revenue targets.
  • Collaborate with internal coverage teams to identify insurance opportunities.
  • Engage clients to position Absa Bancassurance competitively in the market.
  • Drive business retention, organic growth, and upselling strategies.
  • Innovate on insurance products and tailor-made client solutions.

Client Service and Relationship Management

  • Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction through exceptional service delivery.
  • Support claims management and provide advisory throughout policy lifecycles.
  • Build long-term partnerships with clients and stakeholders.

Internal Insurance Program Management

  • Advise on insurance risks and recommend appropriate coverage structures.
  • Redesign cover structures to align with commercial and regulatory needs.
  • Conduct risk analysis and present commercial insights for decision-making.

Leadership and People Development

  • Lead, mentor, and empower a high-performing Bancassurance team.
  • Promote capacity building and skills enhancement.
  • Drive a culture of recognition, accountability, and innovation.

Compliance and Operational Excellence

  • Ensure compliance with Absa policies and regulatory standards.
  • Uphold process integrity and champion operational efficiency.

Qualifications and Role Requirements

Academic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Insurance, or a related field is required.

Preferred Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in insurance advisory services.
  • At least 3 years in a leadership role within a financial or insurance institution.
  • Demonstrated success in sales, client acquisition, and business development.
  • Experience in profiling and reviewing insurance contracts.

Skills and Competencies

  • Excellent knowledge of the insurance industry and market trends.
  • Proven ability to generate leads, pitch proposals, and close deals.
  • Strong strategic planning and business acumen.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to interpret insurance underwriting and assess risks effectively.
  • Capability to influence key stakeholders and secure long-term partnerships.
  • Proficiency in market research and industry analysis.
  • Innovative mindset with the ability to adapt to the evolving insurance landscape.
