Based at Wilson Airport in Nairobi, Kenya, the organization provides critical air evacuation services during medical emergencies and air ambulance transfers between medical facilities. Quality Officer Position Overview
Amref Flying Doctors is hiring a Quality Officer to provide technical and administrative support to their Quality Department. This role will help improve efficiency and effectiveness across operations while ensuring compliance with aviation regulations and company standards. The Quality Officer will report directly to the Head of Quality – AOC/Compliance and indirectly to the Head of Quality – AMO on matters relating to AMO quality. The position requires maintaining close liaison with the Operations, Maintenance, and Medical Departments to ensure quality objectives are met.
Key Responsibilities of the Quality Officer
Documentation and Records Management
- – Manage quality and compliance records and documentation according to Kenya Civil Aviation Regulations (KCARs) and company quality standards
- – Facilitate effective distribution of company manuals and amendments to ensure all documentation remains current
- – Maintain the Master List of all controlled manuals and documents, conducting periodic monitoring to verify all manuals, publications and subscriptions are up-to-date
- – Support the implementation of the company’s document management system
Quality Assurance and Compliance
- – Assist in implementing AOC and AMO quality audit programs to ensure compliance with company and regulatory standards
- – Support periodic reviews and audits of company procedures, practices, and documents to identify potential weaknesses, gaps, or risks
- – Create, manage, and assess the effectiveness of corrective action plans issued in response to audit findings and compliance violations
- – Help sensitize staff regarding quality standards and the latest aviation regulations and processes
Reporting and Communication
- – Collect, collate, document, and summarize quality control/quality assurance data and trends for the Head of Quality
- – Support planning and implementation of Quality Management Review Meetings and other quality-related meetings
- – Promote a strong quality culture throughout the organization
- – Assist in preparation for third-party audits, including planning and evidence gathering
Regulatory Compliance
- – Support integration of civil aviation requirements into company aviation processes and procedures
- – Follow up on Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) approval requests
- – Monitor and track currencies of all KCAA approvals and other relevant documents/certificates to ensure they remain valid
- – Perform other work-related duties as assigned
Qualifications and Requirements
Experience and Education
- – Minimum 3 years’ consecutive work experience in the aviation industry
- – Technical qualification, particularly in flight operations or aircraft maintenance
- – At least 2 years’ experience in quality assurance or compliance-related roles
- – Completed Quality Management Systems (QMS) course or equivalent from a recognized institution
- – Proficiency in information and communication technology
Knowledge and Skills
- – Good working knowledge of Kenya Civil Aviation Regulations (KCARs)
- – Strong understanding of AOC/AMO operations and regulatory requirements, including experience working directly with KCAA
- – Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- – Positive safety mindset with analytical skills and attention to detail
- – Ability to work effectively both in dynamic teams and independently
- – Strong organizational skills with ability to accurately follow instructions
- – Capacity to multi-task with flexibility
Work Environment
