Competitive Remuneration Package

  • Basic Salary: Kes.65,610 x 3,750 – 69,360 x 3,755 – 73,115 x 3,745 -76,860 x 4,260 – 81,120 x 4,255 – 85,375 x 4,260 – 89,635 x 4,260 – 93,895 x 4,755 – 98,650 per annum
  • House Allowance: Kes 24,000 monthly
  • Commuter Allowance: Kes 8,000 monthly

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • – Six (6) years cumulative experience, three (3) years of which should have been at the grade of Driver II or comparable position in the public or private sector
  • – KCSE mean grade D (plain) in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education or its equivalent
  • – Valid driving license free from any current endorsement(s)
  • – Passed Occupational Trade Test II for Drivers
  • – Defensive Driving Certificate from a recognized institution
  • – Refresher Driving course lasting not less than one week from a recognized institution
  • – Certificate of Good Conduct (renewable after one (1) year)
  • – Refresher course in First Aid lasting not less than one (1) week
  • – Certificate in computer applications
  • – Demonstrated merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results

Key Competencies and Skills

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • – Strong analytical skills for route planning and vehicle assessment
  • – Good communication skills for effective reporting and interaction with staff
  • – Excellent interpersonal skills for professional passenger interaction

Core Responsibilities

The Driver I will be responsible for:

Vehicle Operation and Maintenance

  • – Driving the Authority vehicle as authorized
  • – Carrying out minor mechanical adjustments when necessary
  • – Recognizing and promptly reporting mechanical defaults of the vehicles
  • – Ensuring security and safety of the vehicle on and off the road

Transport Management

  • – Monitoring and reporting expiry of insurance policies for motor vehicles
  • – Overseeing transport management within their scope
  • – Preparing and submitting reports on transport when need arises
  • – Ensuring safety of passengers and/or goods therein

Job Purpose

The Driver I will be responsible for providing safe, efficient, and reliable transport services within the Authority. The role requires a high level of discipline, mechanical awareness, and a commitment to road safety and vehicle maintenance. The successful candidate will support official operations by ensuring timely and secure transportation of staff, documents, and materials while adhering to traffic regulations and internal policies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure a high level of integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism while on duty.
  • Conduct routine vehicle checks to identify maintenance or repair needs and report promptly.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date vehicle mileage logs and work tickets.
  • Ensure vehicle security and safety both on and off the road.
  • Guarantee the safety of passengers, other road users, and the assigned vehicle.
  • Inspect assigned vehicles regularly and ensure insurance and licensing documents are current.
  • Confirm that assigned vehicles are equipped with essential tools such as toolboxes, spotlights, umbrellas, fire extinguishers, and first aid kits.
  • Take the vehicle for scheduled service and maintenance when due, ensuring timely compliance.
  • Comply with the Traffic Act and the Authority’s internal fleet management policies and procedures.
  • Ensure assigned vehicle(s) are properly fueled and in optimal operating condition.
  • Report immediately any incident involving injury, damage, or loss to passengers, pedestrians, or property in accordance with set procedures.
  • Maintain cleanliness and good condition of the vehicle at all times, both inside and out.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

  • Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) mean Grade D (plain) or its equivalent qualification.
  • A cumulative six (6) years of relevant work experience, including at least three (3) years at the level of Driver I or a comparable position.
  • Valid BCE Driving License without any current endorsements.
  • Occupational Trade Test II for Drivers.
  • First Aid Certificate from St. John Ambulance, KIHBT, or any other recognized institution (course duration not less than one week).
  • Defensive Driving Certificate from the Automobile Association (AA) of Kenya or an equivalent institution.
  • Completed a Refresher Course for Drivers lasting at least one week at KIHBT or an equivalent institution.
  • Valid Certificate of Good Conduct from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications.
  • Demonstrated merit, discipline, and consistent performance in previous driving roles.
