Safety, Health & Environment Lead

East African Breweries Limited (EABL) is seeking a Safety, Health & Environment Lead to oversee comprehensive SHE operations at their UDV site. This role is critical in maintaining world-class safety standards within Diageo’s largest single manufacturing site globally.

Key Responsibilities

Safety Management

  • – Develop and implement safety policies and procedures
  • – Lead accident prevention programs and investigations
  • – Coordinate emergency response procedures
  • – Oversee Severe Fatal Injury Prevention program
  • – Manage contractor safety systems
  • – Direct safety training initiatives

Environmental Leadership

  • – Guide environmental compliance programs
  • – Oversee waste management initiatives
  • – Monitor discharge parameters and air quality
  • – Implement pest control programs
  • – Drive sustainability initiatives

Health & Systems Management

  • – Maintain ISO 45001/14001 certification requirements
  • – Coordinate occupational health programs
  • – Manage food safety compliance (FSSC 22000)
  • – Lead integrated management systems
  • – Ensure regulatory compliance

Fire Safety

  • – Direct fire prevention systems
  • – Review fire safety protocols for new projects
  • – Maintain emergency response readiness
  • – Train emergency response teams
  • – Coordinate with external emergency services

Compliance & Reporting

  • – Generate monthly performance reports
  • – Conduct annual safety audits
  • – Liaise with regulatory authorities
  • – Manage statutory inspections
  • – Track lead indicators for safety and environment
  • – Ensure legislative compliance

Requirements

Education

  • – Bachelor’s degree in Science or Engineering
  • – NEBOSH International Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety
  • – ISO Lead Assessor certification
  • – Training in Environmental and OHS law
  • Experience
  • – 8+ years in manufacturing industry
  • – 3+ years in first-line management
  • – Proven track record in OHS management
  • – Multi-site coordination experience
  • – Incident investigation expertise
  • – Regulatory compliance management

Technical Knowledge

  • – ISO 9001, 14001, 45001 standards
  • – FSSC 22000 requirements
  • – Local and international safety legislation
  • – Risk assessment methodologies
  • – Environmental management systems
  • – Emergency response protocols

Leadership Skills

  • – Strategic planning abilities
  • – Team development expertise
  • – Stakeholder management
  • – Change management
  • – Crisis response leadership
  • – Cross-functional collaboration
