Job Description

The Pharmacy Attendant will support the Pharmaceutical Technologist and medical team in delivering reliable pharmacy services. This is a hands-on role designed for individuals pursuing pharmacy assistant vacancies in Kenya or those seeking entry-level healthcare jobs that offer practical exposure in a structured, regulated environment. The position contributes to smooth pharmacy workflow, accurate medication handling, and a clean, orderly service environment for all users.

As part of KPA’s healthcare team, the Pharmacy Attendant helps maintain medication safety standards, supports inventory processes, and assists in dispensing-related tasks. The role also contributes to drug-use monitoring and patient safety initiatives, aligning with the Authority’s commitment to quality healthcare delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Clean and maintain the dispensing area, ensuring high standards of hygiene and proper arrangement of medication items.
  • Organize pharmacy shelves, counters, and storage areas to support efficient workflow and quick identification of drugs.
  • Assist the Pharmaceutical Technologist in identifying medications that require replenishment from the pharmacy sub-store or main store.
  • Support the movement and delivery of drugs from the main store to the pharmacy.
  • Assist in pre-packing medications to support efficient service delivery.
  • Participate in the compounding of drugs for local application while observing pharmaceutical guidelines.
  • Help in preventing drug misuse by maintaining proper drug handling practices.
  • Support pharmacovigilance activities such as documenting and reporting adverse drug reactions.

Required Qualifications

  • KCSE certificate or its equivalent.
  • Certificate in Pharmacy from a recognized institution (an added advantage).
  • Basic ICT skills for handling digital pharmacy systems.
  • Strong ethical values and adherence to professional conduct.
  • Compliance with Chapter 6 of the Constitution of Kenya on ethics and integrity.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a clinical or pharmacy environment.
  • Understanding of basic drug handling and dispensing procedures.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills for working in a healthcare setting.
  • Ability to follow instructions accurately and support senior pharmacy staff effectively.
