About the Role

The Shipping and Maritime Officer position is an entry and training grade for the cadre. An officer appointed to this position will work under the guidance and supervision of a senior officer while supporting activities related to shipping and maritime affairs.

The role involves collecting and organizing relevant maritime data, preparing briefs and reports, and developing preliminary working documents used in stakeholder sensitization on maritime safety, security and prevention of marine pollution by ships and other watercraft.

Key Responsibilities

• Collect data relating to shipping and maritime affairs.
• Collate shipping and maritime data for use in relevant activities and reports.
• Draft briefs on shipping and maritime matters under the guidance and supervision of senior officers.
• Prepare reports on relevant shipping and maritime affairs.
• Develop preliminary working documents for stakeholder sensitization activities.
• Support sensitization of stakeholders on safety and security within the maritime sector.
• Prepare working documents addressing the prevention of marine environment pollution by ships and other watercraft.
• Work under the guidance and supervision of a senior officer as part of the entry and training requirements of the cadre.

Required Qualifications

• Education: A Bachelor’s degree in any of the following fields from a university recognized in Kenya: Maritime and Shipping Management, Maritime Management, Coastal and Marine Management, Port Management, Economics, Logistics and Fleet Management.
