About Bandari Maritime Academy
Bandari Maritime Academy was established through Legal Notice No. 233 of 28th November 2018, with the mandate to develop academic and vocational skills and provide competent maritime human resources for a sustainable Blue Economy.
About the Role
The Trainer I – Marine Engineering will be responsible for designing and delivering training programmes while supporting curriculum development, assessment and trainee practical activities. The position also involves maintaining student records and ensuring that marine engineering workshop equipment remains properly maintained and operational.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop and deliver training programmes.
- Support the development of Maritime Education and Training (MET) policies.
- Develop and review curriculum.
- Develop the school calendar and time-tabling.
- Develop and evaluate teaching, learning and assessment materials.
- Supervise trainees’ practical sessions, trade projects and business plans.
- Mark internal examinations.
- Maintain students’ attendance and performance records.
- Ensure workshop equipment is well maintained and in working condition.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Marine Engineering from a university recognized in Kenya.
- Officer in Charge of an Engineering Watch (OICEW) – Regulation III/1 Certificate of Competency (CoC).
- Second Engineer – Regulation III/3 Certificate of Competency, limited to 750–3,000 kW.
- Proficiency in computer applications.
- Fulfil the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant sea time or sea service experience will be an added advantage.
- Approval by the Kenya Maritime Authority would be an added advantage.
Benefits and Compensation
The position offers a basic salary of Kshs. 42,500 – Kshs. 80,000 per month, a house allowance of Kshs. 10,000, commuter allowance of Kshs. 12,000 and annual leave allowance of Kshs. 4,000. The position is offered on Permanent and Pensionable terms.
