About Bandari Maritime Academy

Bandari Maritime Academy was established through Legal Notice No. 233 of 28th November 2018, with the mandate to develop academic and vocational skills and provide competent maritime human resources for a sustainable Blue Economy.

About the Role

The Deputy Director Admissions and Examinations will coordinate admissions and examinations processes while supporting effective management of student records, progression, graduation and certification matters. The position also provides guidance on admissions policies and supports planning related to student enrolment and academic sessions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Sensitize students and staff on the Academy’s admissions policy.
  • Communicate clear admissions criteria to relevant parties.
  • Advise management on student recruitment opportunities.
  • Prepare student pass lists and present them to the Academic Council for approval.
  • Ensure that all students included on the graduation list have been duly cleared by the respective departments.
  • Coordinate graduation ceremonies.
  • Liaise with the Academic Registrar on student certification matters.
  • Update management on student matters relating to session reporting, deferment and completion.
  • Update management on classes in session ahead of the semester for planning purposes.
  • Coordinate the development and review of examination policies.
  • Ensure that examination processes are properly managed.
  • Liaise with the Registrar on the processing of graduates’ certificates.
  • Coordinate with management to ensure that external verifiers and examiners are appointed.

Required Qualifications

  • At least fifteen (15) years of work experience, three (3) of which must have been at the grade of Assistant Director, Admissions and Examination or in a comparable position.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Education, Arts, Sciences, Business Administration, Maritime or another relevant and equivalent qualification.
  • A Master’s degree in Education, Arts, Science, Business Administration, Maritime or another relevant and equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
  • A cumulative fifteen (15) years of work experience, of which five (5) must have been at senior management level.
  • A Leadership Course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution.
  • Professional qualification and membership in good standing where applicable.
  • Proficiency in computer application skills.

Benefits and Compensation

The Deputy Director Admissions and Examinations position is offered on permanent and pensionable terms. The position carries a basic salary scale of Kshs. 165,700 – Kshs. 315,000 per month, together with a house allowance of Kshs. 35,000, commuter allowance of Kshs. 20,000 and leave allowance of Kshs. 10,000.
