Bandari Maritime Academy was established through Legal Notice No. 233 of 28th November 2018. The Academy has the mandate to develop academic and vocational skills and provide competent maritime human resources for a sustainable Blue Economy.

About the Role

The Trainer I – Nautical Science will support the delivery of maritime education and training programmes and contribute to the development of trainees’ technical and practical skills. The role also involves supporting examinations, instructional materials, curriculum development, class attendance monitoring and workshop records management.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in designing, developing and delivering training and capacity-building programmes in maritime education and training and related areas.
• Support the development of instructional materials for training.
• Implement training programmes according to the set syllabus.
• Monitor and report class attendance.
• Set, moderate, administer and mark examinations.
• Support the supervision of trainees’ practical sessions, trade projects and business plan development.
• Contribute to the development and review of curriculum and syllabus.
• Assist in workshop records keeping.

Required Qualifications

• Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Marine Engineering or Nautical Science.
• Certificate of Competency (Engineering) STCW III/1, or Certificate of Competency (Deck Officers) STCW II/1.
• Proficiency in computer applications skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Approval by the Kenya Maritime Authority would be an added advantage.

Benefits and Compensation

The position offers a basic salary of Kshs. 42,500 – Kshs. 80,000 per month, together with a house allowance of Kshs. 10,000, commuter allowance of Kshs. 12,000 and annual leave allowance of Kshs. 4,000. The position is offered on Permanent and Pensionable terms.
