Accountant I Salary and Allowances

  • Basic Salary: Ksh. 41,420 – 57,230 (monthly)
  • House Allowance: Ksh. 12,800 (monthly)
  • Commuter Allowance: Ksh. 5,000 (monthly)
  • Other Allowances: As per current SRC circulars

Key Requirements for Appointment

Applicants must meet the following qualifications to be considered:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Commerce (Accounting or Finance option), Business Administration (Accounting option), or any other relevant and equivalent qualification from a recognized institution; OR
  • Passed Part III of the Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (CPAK)
  • Membership to a relevant professional accounting body

Duties and Responsibilities of Accountant I

As an Accountant I in the Uasin Gishu County Government, your responsibilities will include:

  1. Preparation and verification of payment vouchers in accordance with government financial regulations
  2. Conducting routine accounting work such as balancing cashbooks, imprests, and advance ledgers
  3. Maintaining primary financial records including ledgers, registers, and cashbooks
  4. Generating simple management reports such as imprest returns and expenditure summaries
  5. Ensuring safe custody of financial documents and county assets
  6. Compiling and submitting quarterly revenue and expenditure returns
  7. Assisting in year-end audit processes by preparing financial schedules and audit documentation
