Key Responsibilities
Courier Network Management
- Launch, manage, and strategically scale courier operations across multiple cities in Kenya
- Monitor and enhance key courier performance indicators including delivery time, online hours, and hourly earnings
- Develop and implement strategies to increase courier efficiency and reliability
- Build robust supply models to improve service metrics and courier earnings
Team Leadership
- Hire, coach, and lead the courier operations team, starting with managing a technical Courier Operations Specialist
- Identify skill gaps in the team and recruit appropriate talent to fill these positions
- Develop team members through mentorship and targeted training initiatives
- Create a performance-driven culture focused on operational excellence
Operational Development
- Design and optimize scalable operational processes for the courier function
- Create operational and financial models to drive efficiency and reduce cost per order (CPO)
- Implement data-driven strategies to improve courier performance metrics
- Travel to key operational zones across Kenya to monitor and enhance field operations
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with the Country Manager to align courier operations with overall business goals
- Collaborate with local and headquarters teams to implement strategic initiatives
- Serve as the primary stakeholder for courier-related matters, representing their interests
- Coordinate with other departments to ensure seamless integration of courier operations
Requirements and Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Engineering, or related field
- Minimum 6+ years of professional experience, preferably in both corporate environments (such as banking) and startup settings
- Proven track record in operations management, preferably in logistics, delivery, or related fields
- Experience leading and developing teams in fast-paced environments
Technical Skills
- Advanced proficiency in Excel/Google Sheets for complex data modeling and analysis
- SQL knowledge is advantageous but not required
- Understanding of logistics management systems and performance metrics
- Ability to develop and interpret financial and operational models
Leadership Abilities
- Strong team management capabilities with a focus on developing talent
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with couriers, team members, and stakeholders
- Strategic thinking combined with tactical execution skills
- Problem-solving mindset with the ability to make data-driven decisions
Personal Attributes
- Hands-on, field-driven approach with willingness to engage directly with couriers
- Comfortable switching between analytical problem-solving and practical field leadership
- Willingness to travel across Kenya to key operational zones
