Key Responsibilities

Courier Network Management

• Launch, manage, and strategically scale courier operations across multiple cities in Kenya
• Monitor and enhance key courier performance indicators including delivery time, online hours, and hourly earnings
• Develop and implement strategies to increase courier efficiency and reliability
• Build robust supply models to improve service metrics and courier earnings

Team Leadership

• Hire, coach, and lead the courier operations team, starting with managing a technical Courier Operations Specialist
• Identify skill gaps in the team and recruit appropriate talent to fill these positions
• Develop team members through mentorship and targeted training initiatives
• Create a performance-driven culture focused on operational excellence

Operational Development

• Design and optimize scalable operational processes for the courier function
• Create operational and financial models to drive efficiency and reduce cost per order (CPO)
• Implement data-driven strategies to improve courier performance metrics
• Travel to key operational zones across Kenya to monitor and enhance field operations

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Work closely with the Country Manager to align courier operations with overall business goals
• Collaborate with local and headquarters teams to implement strategic initiatives
• Serve as the primary stakeholder for courier-related matters, representing their interests
• Coordinate with other departments to ensure seamless integration of courier operations

Requirements and Qualifications

Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Engineering, or related field
• Minimum 6+ years of professional experience, preferably in both corporate environments (such as banking) and startup settings
• Proven track record in operations management, preferably in logistics, delivery, or related fields
• Experience leading and developing teams in fast-paced environments

Technical Skills

• Advanced proficiency in Excel/Google Sheets for complex data modeling and analysis
• SQL knowledge is advantageous but not required
• Understanding of logistics management systems and performance metrics
• Ability to develop and interpret financial and operational models

Leadership Abilities

• Strong team management capabilities with a focus on developing talent
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with couriers, team members, and stakeholders
• Strategic thinking combined with tactical execution skills
