Electrician Job Description
The Electrician will carry out electrical installation, inspection, testing, maintenance and repair work across domestic and industrial installations within BATUK estates, including SSFAs. The role requires compliance with the latest BS 7671 IET Wiring Regulations, relevant safety rules and established work procedures.
The successful candidate will work as part of a team or independently after receiving direction. Electrician vacancy in Nanyuki applicants must be capable of diagnosing faults, making defective equipment safe, using test equipment correctly and completing assigned work to the required standard.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct minor domestic and industrial electrical installation work in accordance with BS 7671 IET Wiring Regulations.
- Inspect, maintain and service white goods and domestic and industrial electrical installations.
- Review maintenance records to confirm electrical infrastructure and equipment remain compliant.
- Diagnose faults and complete simple repairs on low-voltage installations and equipment.
- Identify, isolate and make safe faulty or dangerous installations using approved safety procedures.
- Operate, maintain and use electrical test equipment to verify function, operation and accuracy.
- Produce simple installation drawings, specifications and material quantities when required.
- Maintain tools, equipment and work areas in clean, safe and serviceable condition.
- Respond to emergencies and communicate required repairs, including occasional evenings, weekends or holidays.
- Complete CPD activities and support training and mentoring for apprentices and junior electricians.
Required Qualifications
- Hold at least Trade Test 1 in Electrical with a minimum of three years’ relevant working experience.
- Hold a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
- Demonstrate the ability to troubleshoot non-routine maintenance and repair problems.
- Communicate effectively in English and Kiswahili, both orally and in writing.
- Interpret and apply procedures, standards, policies and regulations relevant to electrical work.
- Demonstrate awareness of occupational hazards and standard safety practices.
- Maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and respond appropriately during emergencies.
- Understand electrical safety requirements, including BS 7671 and applicable safety rules.
Preferred Qualifications
- Hold a valid Kenya driving licence, Class B, C or C1.
- Have experience with maintenance, inspection and emergency repair programmes.
- Have exposure to PV panels, solar water heating or fire alarm installation programming.
- Understand Big 6 Compliance areas and relevant UK, national and local laws and codes.
