Job Purpose
The Internal Auditor will supervise audit staff, analyze financial documentation, monitor the implementation of audit recommendations, and evaluate internal control systems. This role ensures that risks are managed effectively, processes comply with regulations, and institutional operations remain efficient and secure. It is ideal for professionals seeking audit officer positions, internal audit careers in Kenya, and financial compliance roles.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise staff within the Internal Audit function to ensure efficient operations.
- Analyze financial documentation and reports to identify audit issues requiring attention.
- Monitor management’s implementation of audit recommendations, identify gaps, and propose corrective interventions.
- Communicate structural loopholes within the institution and recommend appropriate solutions to ensure minimal disruption to operations.
- Assess the institution’s risk management processes and provide recommendations for enhancement.
- Prepare detailed audit reports and memoranda of audit findings for management review and documentation.
- Review information control procedures for systems, including operating procedures, backups, disaster recovery, communication control, and security systems.
- Evaluate internal control procedures for systems under development and upgrade them to enhance efficiency and usability.
- Train audit staff on computerized audit techniques and methods.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the Chief Principal.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Bachelor of Commerce degree (Accounting/Finance option), Auditing, Accounting, Business Administration (Accounting or Finance), or equivalent from a recognized institution.
- Certified Public Accountant of Kenya (CPAK) or equivalent professional qualification.
- Membership to the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK) or relevant professional body.
- Membership in the Institute of Internal Auditors.
- Minimum of five (5) years relevant experience in a similar auditing role; experience in learning institutions is an added advantage.
- Certificate in computer applications from a recognized institution.
Technical Competencies
- Strong understanding of internal control procedures and financial auditing standards.
- Proficiency in computerized audit techniques and accounting software.
- Excellent analytical, reporting, and documentation skills.
- Knowledge of risk management and compliance frameworks.
