Senior Backend Engineer, Markets

Job Description:

Tala is hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to build and extend their backend architecture for new country launches, features, and user growth. This technical leadership role will drive building a highly available, scalable, reliable, fault-tolerant, and performant microservices platform. The engineer will uphold and improve Tala’s processes and standards to advance their mission and objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

• – Design and implement features per the product roadmap
• – Review designs, code, and provide technical guidance across teams
• – Collaborate cross-functionally to ship scalable software solutions
• – Improve codebase with clean, efficient code using appropriate technologies
• – Contribute to migrating legacy code to microservices
• – Enhance testing infrastructure for increased backend code coverage
• – Advance monitoring and alerting for backend module performance
• – Technically lead and mentor the Backend Engineering team

Requirements:

• – 4+ years backend software engineering experience
• – 4+ years coding in Java, Scala, or Kotlin
• – Developed large-scale consumer apps on cloud with microservices
• – Expert in REST API design for mobile/web
• – Proficient in Agile development
• – Strong prioritization and communication skills
• – Expertise in relational (MySQL, PostgreSQL, etc.) and non-relational databases (Cassandra, DynamoDB, etc.)
• – BS in Computer Science or related field (preferred)
• – Ability to interview and evaluate technical candidates
