Senior Investigations Officer

M-KOPA is seeking a Senior Investigations Officer to join its CorporateLARC function and support the company as it scales digital and financial inclusion across its markets. The full-time, hybrid role is based in Kenya and involves leading internal investigations, managing the whistleblower and grievance programme, and providing investigation reporting to senior management and the Board Audit & Risk Committee.

About the Role

The Senior Investigations Officer will lead internal investigations from case intake through evidence gathering, interviews, analysis and reporting. The role covers fraud, misconduct, harassment, safeguarding and policy-violation cases across markets and requires a consistent investigation methodology capable of supporting disciplinary or legal proceedings.

The position will also manage M-KOPA’s whistleblower and grievance programme and identify recurring themes that can inform internal audit planning and risk management.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead internal investigations end-to-end, from case intake and planning through evidence gathering, analysis and final reporting.
• Conduct interviews with complainants, witnesses and subjects as part of investigation processes.
• Investigate cases involving fraud, misconduct, harassment, safeguarding and policy violations.
• Gather, assess and document relevant evidence using an investigation methodology suitable for disciplinary and legal proceedings.
• Prepare clear investigation findings and reports for senior management and Board-level audiences.
• Prepare monthly and quarterly investigation reports for the Head of Internal Audit & Risk and the Board Audit & Risk Committee.
• Manage the whistleblower and grievance programme on a day-to-day basis.
• Maintain appropriate discretion and confidentiality when handling sensitive complaints and investigations.
• Manage an independent caseload across different markets and cultures.
• Identify recurring investigation themes and feed relevant insights into internal audit planning.

Academic and Professional Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in a business-related field, Law, Criminology or a related discipline.
• Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) credential is required.
• Extensive hands-on experience conducting internal investigations.
• Experience in financial services, fintech or a comparable regulated and multi-market environment is preferred.
• Demonstrated experience preparing investigation findings for senior management and Board-level audiences.
