About Bandari Maritime Academy

Bandari Maritime Academy was established through Legal Notice No. 233 of 28th November 2018, with the mandate to develop academic and vocational skills and provide competent maritime human resources for a sustainable Blue Economy.

About the Role

The Senior Security Officer will coordinate and oversee security functions covering staff, students, visitors, property, equipment and machinery. The position will support security risk identification, surveillance, investigations, intelligence services and collaboration with relevant government agencies.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the development and implementation of security management policies and procedures.
• Provide security advisory services to management and intelligence information services.
• Coordinate the preparation of security reports to support decision-making.
• Facilitate the identification of security risks within the organization and provide mitigation measures.
• Coordinate security efforts across the organization to cover staff, students, visitors, property, equipment and machinery.
• Oversee the implementation of sustainable security systems and monitor them to identify areas for improvement.
• Spearhead the implementation of CCTV surveillance and liaise with the ICT team to facilitate real-time collection of surveillance information.
• Facilitate security sensitization programmes for staff and coordinate related training.
• Spearhead relationships with law enforcement and other relevant government agencies.
• Oversee patrol operations and manage outsourced security guards.
• Investigate security breaches and close security cases within established timelines.
• Ensure the establishment and maintenance of an up-to-date database of security incidents and trends for management information and security action.
• Review security intelligence and investigation reports.
• Maintain and archive security footage.

Required Qualifications

• Cumulative service period of three years, including service at the grade of Security Officer I or in a comparable position.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Criminology and Security Studies or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
• Certificate in Basic Security from a recognized institution.
• Current Certificate of Good Conduct from the Kenya Police Service.
• Proficiency in computer applications.

Benefits and Compensation

The position offers a basic salary of Kshs. 71,500 – Kshs. 141,500 per month, a house allowance of Kshs. 20,000, commuter allowance of Kshs. 14,000 and leave allowance of Kshs. 6,000. The position is offered on Permanent and Pensionable terms.
