Assistant Director, Management Accounting Job Description

The Assistant Director, Management Accounting provides strategic leadership in budgeting, financial reporting, audit coordination, and cost management. The role ensures compliance with statutory requirements while delivering actionable insights that support organizational performance and long-term sustainability. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and direction to the Management Accounting Section to ensure efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Oversee preparation and presentation of accurate periodic management and financial reports.
  • Coordinate formulation, implementation, and monitoring of organizational budgets aligned to strategic objectives.
  • Oversee internal and external financial audits and implementation of audit recommendations.
  • Coordinate financial analysis, forecasts, and financial plans to support decision-making.
  • Implement and monitor cost management frameworks to optimize operational efficiency.
  • Coordinate implementation of risk management frameworks within the section.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant legal, regulatory, and reporting standards.
  • Oversee maintenance of financial systems, software, and internal controls.
  • Support development and execution of financial strategies aligned with HELB goals.
  • Collaborate with internal departments and external stakeholders to achieve financial objectives.
  • Manage partnerships with financial institutions for effective funds and sponsorship management.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of twelve years relevant work experience, including three years at Principal Accountant level or equivalent.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
  • CPA(K) qualification or equivalent from a recognized institution.
  • Membership with the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya in good standing.
  • Valid practicing certificate where applicable.
  • Leadership course certificate of at least four weeks from a recognized institution.
  • Certificate in computer applications.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of Public Finance Management Act and Public Procurement and Disposal Act 2015.
  • Demonstrated strategic leadership and ability to inspire high-performing teams.
  • Experience in higher education financing or public sector financial management.
